Of course, after you and Theodore Roosevelt scare the crap out of some Boy Scouts, the next thing you do…is grab you lady and go drinkin’! That’s just how TR rolls.
The name for The Nine Nights is a reference to a Jamaican funerary tradition I discovered yesterday…while searching for a good name for a club. Of course, I went to Wikipedia, and began browsing long lists of real clubs, fictional clubs, real and fictional establishments…turns out it’s pretty hard to find a good name to riff off of for a ghost nightclub. Then I started looking through the article about funeral traditions, and lo and behold…a cool name for a pretty dang cool tradition (that usually involved a lot of rum!).
As for Christopher Marlowe…well, if you don’t know about him, he’s the James Bond of playwrights. If he’d lived long enough to really have a career, we probably wouldn’t be reading nearly as much Shakespeare in our English classes.
Seriously, Kate Beaton, why don’t you love us yet?Posted Fri, 10/23/2009 by Joe

First of all, be sure to check the latest news post! We’ve opened our online store, offering a shirt based on THIS VERY COMIC!
I’d like to think that, though Hark! A Vagrant has the “historic fanfiction” webcomic market cornered, Dave and I fill a nice little niche somewhere in the “Totally Weird – Gamer – Slice of Life” continuum. Until proven wrong by you, dear readers, I believe that The Nine Nights has a lot of potential for a recurring setting, a scenario Dave and I can conjure to sate his lust for hilarious historical figures and mine for caricature.

Maybe your tastes change after being dead for a couple hundred years, you know?
So basically Shakespeare is saying “Hey, how about you come back to my place where I’ll cut off your hands, rape you, and then rip your tongue out of your mouth!”
I guess he’s a little out of practice in that seduction thing…
Right you are, sir. We’re nothing if not appreciative towards our influences.
I love the Miyazaki nod with the Spirited Away character at the bar…Brilliant! (as long as I’m not mistaken that that’s what it’s supposed to be…)
LOVE THE COMIC!
Voile, Sam. Five letters.
Exclamation, though I could see him shouting “OIL!” at people.
Is Teddy making an exclamation, or is he actually saying, “Oil”?
… Voil?
