If I see that crown one more time

Add it to the list of weird qualities Pestilence has–if you lick him you trip balls. The original art directions I included for this strip were as follows.

“Ted’s viewpoint of Death speaking with Conquest (perhaps reuse the Death silhouette from the Pokemon strip? Conquest might be portrayed as a penguin, or a giant strip of bacon. If we wish to show more of the room, there could be a television–or would it be?! Perhaps the television is instead a giant can of coffee grounds. And it tastes purple. This is what I was considering using crayons for, to give it a more surreal feel–totally different from the rest of the comic.”

The end result appears to be Conquest as a gelatin mold with marshmallow chunks suspended in it, with a freaky vulture head. I think Joe and I have pretty good synergy, on the whole.

Horseshoes and Hand Grenades

Close. The jello is actually supposed to be pestilence, with conquest represented as the penguin with crown, a separate entity. If you go back a few posts, this is one of the strips I referenced where Conquest is wearing a crown. I sort of imagine that the Horsemen would appear very different in their full Apocalyptic Glory. Death would be the shadowy figure seen here, and Conquest… well…. he likely wouldn’t be a penguin, but would certainly have a menacing spectral crown.
