I like the song “Don’t Fear the Reaper,” but I cannot stand the “more cowbell” meme. And I understand memes, very well, in fact, but I simply can’t abide by more cowbell. I think it has something to do with my inner percussionist viewing the cowbell as a legitimate musical accessory, while the oversaturation of the SNL skit invalidates it as a second-rate toy.

Cowbell, in short, needs more legitimate love.
