Sometimes the research I have to do on these old comics strikes me as a little bit unusual. My deduction is that this comic may have been inspired by the good amount of rain in Charlottesville the week before it ran, though I don’t know if it’s possible to look up the records and see just whether the power went out. And who are we to resist a callback of the nutmeg gag? Some day we’ll find another, far stranger quality for Pestilence to have.

It would also seem that, although he still keeps the cards inside his person, Pestilence has at least learned to arrange them in the right direction this time.
