Heavy Reading
Is that all? Phht, I can wait until 6 AM Monday morning.Posted Tue, 09/01/2009 by Dave in response to Heavy Reading

Once upon a time I complained about how being an English major meant I had plenty of reading to do but little time for pleasure reading. Then I realized that was a load of crap. In truth, I read a ton for pleasure. A lot of it was comics, admittedly, but I think that was more of a symptom of genre than of time constraints.
To everyone out there reading this who says that they love reading but don’t have the time–make the time in your day for it. Seriously, you can find it, and you won’t regret it. I made my new year’s resolution for 2009 to read every day, and it’s been spectacular.
Also, what’s the deal with college textbooks (or any textbook, for that matter) having pictures on the cover that are entirely unrelated to the contents of the book? Is it a malicious ploy to confuse and bewilder the astute? Or is it the modern equivalent of putting “DON’T PANIC” in large, friendly letters on the cover, so that by printing a penguin on my statistics textbook I won’t think “man, statistics sucks and is difficult,” I’ll instead think, “man, I wonder what penguin tastes like.” Regardless, I hope to someday land on the subcommittee for textbook cover picture selection. I will issue a full report when I do.
In all honesty, I do kind of want to know what a penguin tastes like. Also, super glad I never took stats.
