10 PRINT APARTMENT 4H, 20 GOTO 10

Posted Thu, 08/19/2010 by Dave

Good news, in case you’ve actually scrolled down this far–we’re pleased to announce our return to print publication this fall! Apartment 4H will be tentatively appearing in the Miami Student of Miami University, and in the Daily Orange at Syracuse! Sadly, the Cavalier Daily politely declined to publish us (again), that tempestuous dame. Oh, how our hearts long to be back in (print in) Ol’ Virginia.

If you know people at one of these schools (hello, my sister, who never reads this comic), let ’em know to look us up!

I’m glad THAT’s over with.

Posted Fri, 7/09/2010 by Dave

Now look, my dear readers. I know you have a lot of questions. What happened this week? Was it for real? Was it trolling? Was it another of your deranged art experiments? Did War really have a hand in his sandwich? Did Ted really get eaten by the horsemen?

In short, it was about 30% art experiment, 50% trolling, and 20% hey, if we do this, we can be lazy and play it off as part of the gag. When we reveal their is a gag. And yes, it was a hand in the sandwich, and no, Ted’s alive and well in this wacky little world of ours.

So, we apologize for any confusion, we accept your gratitude for any mirth we may have caused, and we reiterate our firm commitment to never going into syndication, because we have seen the future ourselves. It is a dark, cannibal-haunted place.

Vote Early, Vote Often

Posted Wed, 03/17/2010 by Joe

Apartment 4H is now listed on Top Web Comics! You can vote for us by clicking on the pretty red button on the top of our side menu. You can vote once per day per machine, so please give us your support! And as an incentive for voting, you’ll get a special sneak preview of UVA’s PULSE Comic Zine, Volume 8, with cover art by yours truly!

On a related note, those of you who attend Mr. Jefferson’s University can pick up the latest PULSE in April to see an 8-page 4H retrospective, covering our transition from underappreciated newspapermen to Internet rock stars! I’ll also be giving a presentation about Apartment 4H at an AIA / AIGA Pecha Kucha night on Friday, March 19. A busy week for 4H, indeed.

King of the Highlander Brassica clan

More than a decade later, Pokémon’s influence still resonates in the collective consciousness of a generation. There are a handful of gaming moments I can point to in my life as true watersheds–Game Genie with the original NES Mario series, first running in three dimensions in Super Mario 64, fighting my way through Earthbound and the trials therein, the final hour of my first ascension in Nethack. Pokémon, too, joins this pantheon. The formula for the game has aged slightly, but few games (perhaps none) have caused a cultural firestorm on the same level, or defined a genre and franchise so powerfully.

In many ways, Facebook is much the same. The internet is defined by diverse experiences–talking with friends about its landscape ten years ago reveals we were residents of many fractured communities, isolated by our interests. Modern megasites like Facebook pull us together in a more fundamental way. It has defined social networking. We are catalogued by our interests, assimilated in an ever-growing database and readily sorted by name, statistics, base data. We can track the societal evolutions of others and collect them all in one permanent record. I think you shall agree when I say…

Facebook is the human Pokédex.

Wow, Doc…

I never thought of any of that when I suggested the comic idea. I just liked the pun and thought it’d be funny to see you get smacked with a pokéball.

Doc and I have been hard at work adding yet more content to the site, especially for YOU, dear readers!

In light of her recent prominence, Maile, the Mail Order Bride has been added to our Cast page. Dave has also been updating the Archive with more witty and / or insightful comments, up to the conclusion of the Barry Saga. Check them out!
