I knew we forgot something!

The couch is just one of those things that happened in the comic. Joe and I never sat down and said, “okay, so the central feature of this apartment is going to be the couch,” or, “we need the horsemen to symbolize the everyman. Let’s include a couch for that purpose!” Really it was just a matter of, “the horsemen need to be in the same room! Use a couch! It will all make sense!” Over time, I think we got a little attached to the couch.

Actually, I think I’m really more attached to the couch as a writing crutch, but that’s just how it is.

My favorite line for this comic that didn’t make the cut was one for War, an indignant reply to Enigma recalling, “Hey, I dragged this couch across a minefield! Because when you think it through, they had to get it out of the old house somehow…I have a mental image of War doing the Solid Snake sneak across the no-man’s land hiding himself and his brothers under the couch. Awesome.

The Legend of Couch

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not one for drawing background (something I’m trying to change, now that we’re online)
Sometimes, though, you just NEED to put in a prop, usually a forgettable table or chair. Couches, on the other hand… well, couches hold a dear place in my heart, and the Horsemen’s is no exception.
For you Couch fans, here’s a brief archive of its many adventures, from the archetypal “Lounging” pose to the less-than-typical “First date playing Ninja Parkour 2” pose.
